Geek's Old House
Have really been neglecting this site lately but not much time to crank code or HTML. Why? Because 2 years ago I bought a house built in 1948 with very few upgrades.
So now I am a Geek turned carpenter, plumber, electrician, drywall mechanic, floor technician. Found out the web is for more than techie stuff. I have laid ceramic tile, textured walls, replaced windows, refinished wood floors, etc... by searching articles on the web. I will follow up with some pictures of my carpal tunnel turned carpenter tunnel in a short time.

New Website based on Simplified Portal
This web portal is based on the Simplified Portal -- an Open Source initiative that is available from Sourceforge.net or SimplifiedPortal.com. Simplified Portal is a content management system that uses XML to store all the site content and settings. In other words, a complete content management system without the requirements for a SQL or Access database.
Some things you might need to know about setting web site using Simplified Portal
The XML files need write permissions or the ASPNet account should have permissions to the XML files. I found that many Hosting providers do not have the permissions enabled for the ASPNet account. A simple fix was to move the XML data files to a sepearate folder with write permissions added to the folder. Since all the behind the scene code is in a .Net DLL, the folder name or contents is not exposed. To be safe, just back up the XML files and the web site can be restored in seconds...
